Sex

If you haven’t seen GOT, you might have the impression that it is Dungeons and dragons with porn stars. While, it is true that it has broken boundaries by employing porn actors in a number of roles, there is a lot more to it. It has plenty of sex. We see uncivilized nomads rutting like beasts, sophisticated princes and princesses rutting like nomads and a dwarf enjoying attentions of more prostitutes than it is possible for a pair of eyes to register without pausing for a second. When asked about the nature of depiction of sex to the executive producers, they said that it must be quite animalistic. When Martin received complaints about this, he said that he wanted to readers to go through all the sensory things, be it a good or a bad experience. Those who started watching this series for sex have admitted they are glued to it because there is more than sex to it.?

Death

What you mustn’t do while watching GOT is that you must never warm to a character on the screen. Within a blink of the eye that character will be dead. The author is ruthless in killing key characters at surprising times in unlikely ways. Up to the end of latest season there have been 133 on screen deaths of named characters. Early on , the lead character , the first character we would warm up to will be executed in front of his two daughters, a heavily pregnant woman stabbed repeatedly in her womb , and a key character is shot by a crossbow while sitting in the toilet by his own son, who has just killed the woman he loves after finding her in his dad’s bed. Martin has justified that history is “written in blood”. This context , the plotting and the excellent writing has ensured that people who usually shy away from violence on screen found themselves glued to this.

Family

Its all in the family. Several families compete for the iron throne. The main ones are the Starks{goodies} and the Lannisters, rich baddies from the West. The feuding between these two, results in complications, threats emerge in every direction. Alliances are betrayed, blood is spilled, and there is the natural evil which looms in the horizon.

Incest

Just can’t resist mentioning it. If it is an inside the family affair, the is one of the gluing plot lines. It involves Cersei and Jamie Lannister , twin brother and sister, ”secret lovers who are parents to three children”, two of whom become the king. Jaime, the king slayer , been created as a smoothie whom we should loathe, actually has one of the better lines during his hard times and his unlikely rapport with a lady knight makes him weirdly likeable . Cersei, on the other hand , is a monster who makes the tiger mothers look like pussycats.

Women

Got is full of strong and versatile women parts , just not Cersei but many more. Two of my favorites are Arya Stark a teenage ninja, developing into a frighteningly deadly assassin, Daenerys Targareyn who has three dragons under her command and wandering the deserts and preparing to invade for the throne and make the previous battles look like playground games.

Dragons

Three of them, handy when it comes to firing{literally} the slave traders, the bigger they get , the harder to control them.

Torture

Some of the bad experience , the plot includes unpleasant scenes of torture. The king, executes the dad of his fiancée, takes the head and attaches it to the top of a pole so that his fiancée can see it on a regular basis. There is the backstabber , Theon Greyjoy, who you wouldn’t mind seen killed next. But a much, much nastier character comes torture him like shit, cutting of his male toy and destroys his mind and identity and suddenly you feel sorry for this pathetic creature.

Peter Dinklage

People’s favorite and mine too. Many question the moral sense of GOT, but none can dislike this dwarf, Tyrion Lannister , who has played his role to Emmy and Golden Globe effect. Goodness knows what happens to him in the books, God help the producers if they decide to cut him of early. He is given a wonderful character, and performs it so well that you get irritated when action cuts away to some less interesting corner of the continent. We adore him for all his dubious morals, he finds love, constantly battling enemies including his own family and has got the best lines. He is the wisest character who sees a the bigger picture, a small man can cast large shadows. “Every time we deal with an enemy, we create two more”, he ruefully observes. Yah, he is talking about Westeros , not the Middle East.
